WebsiteGerman Aerospace Center

The German Aerospace Center is the national center for aerospace, energy and transportation research of Germany, founded in 1969. It is headquartered in Cologne with 35 locations throughout Germany. The DLR is engaged in a wide range of research and development projects in national and international partnerships

Enter the fascinating world of the German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt e. V.; DLR) and help shape the future through research and innovation! We offer an exciting and inspiring working environment driven by the expertise and curiosity of our 11,000 employees from 100 nations and our unique infrastructure. Together, we develop sustainable technologies and thus contribute to finding solutions to global challenges. Would you like to join us in addressing this major future challenge? Then this is your place!

Join the Emissions & Air Quality group at the DLR Institute of Combustion Technology (VT). The position is based in the Chemical Kinetics and Analysis (CKA) department

What to expect

  • systematic recording and analysis of emissions under real conditions, with a focus on ultrafine particles (UFP) and gaseous emissions
  • investigation of influencing factors such as fuel composition, combustion technology, material properties, and operating parameters
  • combination of experimental work with sound data evaluation and assumption of project responsibility
  • research focus on chemical kinetics, analytics, and emission formation, especially for alternative and synthetic fuels
  • special analysis of non-exhaust emissions, in particular metrological recording and evaluation of tire abrasion particles

Your tasks

  • planning, implementation, and scientific analysis of emission measurements with a focus on UFP and gaseous components
  • investigation of combustion and non-exhaust emissions (e. g., from brake and tire wear)
  • evaluation of extensive data sets – including validation, interpretation, and preparation of results
  • development and application of analytical methods
  • practical project work: setting up, operating, and supporting measurement systems and campaigns
  • support and technical involvement in research projects – from conception to implementation and presentation of results

Your profile

  • extensive experience in combustion, aerosol, or emissions research, particularly in the field of exhaust gas, particle, or gas measurement technology
  • extensive knowledge of particle measurement techniques
  • experience in the field of particle measurements and/or abrasion
  • extensive experience in measurement data acquisition and evaluation
  • experience in the preparation, presentation, and scientific utilization of research results
  • experience in project coordination and acquisition
