The International Space University (ISU) is a higher education institute headquartered in Illkirch-Graffenstaden, a suburb of Strasbourg, France.

International Space University invites applications for a Temporary Instructor in Space Sciences under a six‑month fixed‑term replacement contract (CDD de remplacement). This appointment is offered strictly to cover the teaching duties of a faculty member currently on sick leave. The successful candidate will provide high‑quality, engaging instruction within ISU’s Master’s program and contribute to a supportive, student‑centred learning environment. Where time permits, the Instructor may continue their ongoing research activities, though the primary focus of the role is teaching during the replacement period.

  • Teach in the ISU Master’s program as part of the Space Science and Exploration Track team
  • Develop and deliver course materials, assignments, and assessments
  • Maintain regular office hours and provide academic support to Master’s students.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to curricular discussions as appropriate.
  • Support a welcoming, inclusive learning environment.
  • Collaborate professionally with faculty, students, and staff.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Chief Academic Officer.

Qualifications

Required:

  • PhD or terminal degree in science.
  • Demonstrated excellence or strong potential in undergraduate or graduate teaching.
  • Proficiency with learning management systems, virtual instruction methods, audio/visual systems for lecturing in a large auditorium, and typical Office software.
  • Effective communication and organizational skills.
  • Fluency in the English language (English is the working language at ISU)
  • Commitment to inclusive, student-centered pedagogies.

Preferred:

  • Recent experience in planetary geology, space weather, or other aspect of space sciences related to space exploration.
  • Experience teaching at the college or university level.
  • Ability to design and teach a range of courses within the curriculum.

Appointment Details

  • Fixed-term 6-month appointment beginning on [start date] and ending on [end date].
  • Teaching load typically includes 1 academic Master’s course per term, with occasionally teaching in ISU’s professional development course.
  • Compensation includes salary and access to campus resources (office space, library, technology support).
  • This position may be renewable depending on departmental needs and funding.
