Dear WIA-E members,
On April 20, 2017 the research icebreaker “Polarstern” returns from the Antarctic to Bremerhaven. Immediately after the return, the Alfred Wegener Institute invites visitors of all ages to visit the world-famous research vessel on the grounds of the Lloyd shipyard in Bremerhaven during a tour.
Get an insight into the life and work on board of the Polaris. During a round trip on the ship you will see the bridge, laboratories, helicopters, the operating room, the swimming pool and much more. Audiovisual effects give you a realistic impression of what’s happening on board and the feeling of being in the middle. AWI researcher will show you an ice core drill, an underwater robot and their EMAR Bird Seawater Detector. In science dating and in roaming talks, you can exchange information on current issues of polar research with AWI scientists. Children can dress up as polar explorers and carry out scientific experiments.
