Empowering all Women, in Space and on Earth

Turin Regional Network was founded in 2024.

WIA-Europe Turin aims to foster a vibrant, dynamic and young communityĀ  4 Pillar Strategy:

  • Events/Networking: Organisation of formal and informal events for local members, to connect and share ideas.
  • Local Research: Assess the gender diversity situation in the Aerospace ecosystem of Turin.
  • Mentorship program: Bring together mentors and mentees seeking professional development.
  • WIA-Europe 4 Exploration: Encourage women to access activities linked to human spaceflight training

ā€œAll roads lead to Romeā€… and also to Turin !

So why open a Regional Network there? In the story of modern Italian industry, step by step, Turin earned the title of the Aerospace capital of Italy.Ā

The story starts with the old factories of Piedmont, once engines of automotive fame, being repurposed for station modules and satellites. Over decades, a dense cluster of aerospace companies, from giants like Leonardo and Thales Alenia Space to hundreds of highly-specialised suppliers and SMEs today, took root around the city, building engines, avionics, control systems and space hardware. This makes the region one of Italy’s most complete aerospace ecosystems, with thousands of skilled workers and a turnover in the billions.

But Turin’s story isn’t just about factories: it’s about conversation and connection. Every year, the city hosts Aerospace & Defence Meetings, Italy’s most important business convention for the aerospace sector, drawing thousands of participants and the world’s leading aerospace firms to the Oval Lingotto. These gatherings turn Turin into a global nexus for collaboration, deal-making, and innovation.

Add to this dynamic environment a thriving start-up scene, including ESA-supported Business Incubators that have helped launch more than 30 space tech companies and raise millions in private capital, and you have the ingredients of a true aerospace capital: deep industrial roots, global connectivity, research and innovation, and a compelling story of regional transformation.

Ā The WIA-Europe Turin Regional Network is actively participating and organising activities with these local partners, schools, major aerospace actors and local/regional institutions. We are passionate about our profession, and we gladly support the creation of a more inclusive environment in the aerospace sector.
